Artesanías Castor Ayala Gallery
Loíza, PR,
description
Artesanías Castor Ayala is a store-gallery where visitors may purchase common vejigante masks created by well-known artisan Raúl Ayala Carrasquillo, subject to availability. Vejigantes masks are colorful handicrafts made of coconut shell, which are emblematic of Municipality of Loíza’s Santiago Apóstol Festivities. In 2002, Raúl Ayala was commemorated as “Master Artisan of the Year” in Puerto Rico.
Half-vejigante masks are usually displayed for sale at this store-gallery. Visitors may also see an exhibition of some of Raúl Ayala’s more elaborate vejigante mask creations.
This establishment is also a mini gallery of artisanship made by Castor Ayala, Raúl’s father (RIP), who was honored as "Master Artisan of the Year" in Puerto Rico in 1978.
You may order vejigante masks and other handcrafts that can be sent to your shipping address.
