An easy-to-walk path, serenity, nature sounds, gorgeous tropical trees and art distinguish our recent nature encounters experience while walking on Honor al Río Path (Paseo Honor al Río) in the Municipality of Caguas, Puerto Rico. Our exploration took place on the lovely public paved trail close to Villa Blanca neighborhood. Though we were at an urban area, nature’s magic prevailed as the river sounds were music to our ears, resulting in utter tranquility.
The cozy Cagüitas River led us while we admired elegant trees and an art exhibition along the way. African tulip trees, the flame tree (flamboyán in Spanish) and breadfruit (pana or panapén in Spanish), mango, and almond trees stood out. Staring at curious sculptures next to natural surroundings was an interesting twist of nature encounters. Some of the sculptures that caught our attention are: “Portal” by Toni Hambleton, “Ataduras” by Ramón Berríos, “Desafío en el Río Cagüitas” by Harak Rubio, “Cosmogonías” by Heriberto Nieves, “Custodia" by Jeannette Betancourt, and “Salto en el Río Caguas” by Tomás Lara Francis. To see some of the distinctive sculpted figures, you may check out this article’s photo gallery.
Walking on the Honor al Río Path, located in Villa Blanca neighborhood, is an option for those searching for a nonarduous outdoor recreation in a place surrounded by greenery. Our slow walk on this paved trail (both ways) took around one hour. Visitors may also explore another trail part of Honor al Río Path, located next to Caguas Norte residential area, which may be accessed through a bridge. Honor al Río Path is open to the public from Monday to Sunday, 6:30 am - 7:00 pm.
