A nature encounters activity for your kids does not necessarily need to be a time-consuming experience. We understand that sometimes parents want their children to be outdoors and watch animals or plants or simply stare at interesting scenery, but life routine may get in the way to reserve time for it. However, Mother Earth is very generous as there are alternatives for nature exploration by kids during short periods of time, adjustable according to parents’ agenda. As an example, below we highlight types of places where such can be achieved in the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico.
Whether you are a traveler or local tourist, natural areas suitable for kids may be not too far away from the lodging or residence in Puerto Rico. Subject to your location, some of the following places may be close: a botanical garden, park, pond, lagoon, reservoir, boardwalk or paved pathway along the coastline or an urban forest. Children may be fascinated by ducks and other waterbirds in a pond, lagoon or reservoir site. Botanical gardens are a great spot for kids as they usually have ponds (natural or artificial) and waterbirds while surrounded by a diversity of flora. Parks are another option where the young ones may play, explore trees and sometimes listen to birds’ songs. If the family is staying in a coastal area, there is a chance that a boardwalk or paved path along the sea or ocean is available. Children may like staring at flying birds in this type of area or looking at a boat-and-sea view. In addition, an urban forest may have a short-hike trail where youngsters can bond with nature while walking. For examples of some of these places in Puerto Rico, you may check this article’s photo gallery.
Parents may schedule a playdate with their kids and nature in any of the above-mentioned types of sites for at least a one-or-two-hour-period. Even though families can spend more time at some of those places, we highlight the above as apt choices when duration is a concern. When there is a will, there is a way. Enjoy planning and the family experience!
