Exploring Último Trolley Agri-Cultural Market

An Entertaining Agritourism Experience in the City of San Juan, Puerto Rico
Publication of Discovery: Sept. 30, 2026
Issue: September, 2026

Puerto Rico travelers and residents wishing to immerse in an agritourism activity in the city may enjoy a pleasant morning or afternoon in an urban market located steps away from Ocean Park Beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico: Agro Mercado Cultural Último Trolley (Último Trolley Agri-Cultural Market). A variety of culinary, medicinal and ornamental plants as well as food made from produce are among the items available for sale at this market. Some vendors even sell vegan, gluten-free and preservative-free food. Below we summarize our experience in this market, including agricultural and plant-related products that caught our attention.

Our first stops were at vendors’ tables with plants for sale. Muchos Mundos Studio showed diverse plants grown by such business for consumers to keep caring for at home. Among the plants seen that produce fruits and herbs or are otherwise useful for kitchen purposes, were melon, passion fruit, papaya, tomato, maricongo plantain (green plantain species), pigeon peas, carrot, culantro (recao), oregano, rosemary, various chili peppers, cayenne pepper, and habanero plants. Muchos Mundos Studio was also selling medicinal plants, such as chamomile, panacea, epazote, ruda, and llantén (Plantago major). Afterwards, we were surprised by eye-catching artisanal arrangements of ornamental plants in decorative moss balls known as kokedama─a work of art created by Raíz Viva. Kokedama craft entails molding soil mixture and wrapping it with moss.

The next stops were at vendors’ tables full of food and beverages made with agricultural products. Ital Goodz showed vegan yummy desserts, such as carrot cake with cashew glaze, pumpkin cake made with almond and coconut flour, coconut and vanilla cake with cashew glaze, banana cake, chocolate cake with coconut sugar and peanut butter, pastry-like sweet with guava, strawberry or fig marmalade filling, and pecan tarts with maple syrup and coconut sugar. Fresh hibiscus flower juice, coconut water and ginger juice with cinnamon, anise and spice cloves were being sold by Creazion. We also saw Mermeladas ViNel artisanal and preservative-free marmalades made with natural products, such as mango, mandarin, passion fruit, guava, tamarind, ginger and apple. Mermeladas ViNel homemade dressings and vinaigrettes were also available. We savored a succulent fruit salad made by Frutéalo—banana, mango, papaya, pineapple, kiwi, blueberries, strawberries, green apple, and grapes with shredded coconut and passion fruit sauce. At Ají Mismo’s table, a spicy-sauce tasting display attracted us. Out of four flavors, our favorite was the spicy sauce named Orégano made with sweet bell peppers (pimiento morrón), oregano, coconut milk, lemon, and sesame seeds. Other spicy sauces available for sale were those named Gazpacho Habanero (hot sauce), Chili Crisp (very hot sauce), and Flow Chimichurri (not Argentinean chimichurri). Sol y Ceviche Velázquez was selling pigeon peas salad, spicy crab salad, and shrimp and grouper ceviches, each sold with tostones (fried green plantain slices) or malanga chips. A business named woof bites proudly exhibited dog homemade snacks made with natural ingredients. Among the dog treats, were cookies made with banana, blueberries, oatmeal flour, eggs, and peanut butter.

Último Trolley Agri-Cultural Market is an entertaining place for solo visitors and family-or-friend groups. Besides agricultural products, it promotes Puerto Rico’s culture through the sale of handicrafts made by local artisans and typical food. This urban market is held usually on the last Sunday of each month, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
