Magical Agritourism Encounters in Puerto Rico

An ecotreasures’ Introspection about Special Connections with Farms and their Offspring
Publication of Discovery: March 31, 2019
Issue: March, 2019

Visits to agricultural sites allow people to connect with Mother Earth and appreciate its grand value. Even though the ways to get involved with plantations and farm products vary among human beings, it is good to highlight moments when nature’s charm was remarkable.

Below we share a summary of the top five agritourism encounters in Puerto Rico that have stood out so far due to the special attraction the ecotreasures ® crew sensed in relation to these.

ecotreasures’ Top Five Magical Agritourism Encounters:

1) The Scenery of Hacienda Tres Angeles’ coffee plantation and its pathways on slope terrain

We couldn’t take our eyes off this extraordinary picturesque landscape seen from the top of a hill. As we admired the beautiful land paths, we visualized farmers interacting with nature while harvesting. We had a strong desire to walk on those pathways and be part of the harvest team.

Exploration: Guided tour in Hacienda Tres Angeles in the Municipality of Adjuntas

2) Multiple Cacao Beans on the Drying Area

Besides admiring the amazing cacao bean harvest, we felt an immediate affection for the cacao beans lying on the drying area’s wooden floor as if these were newborn babies being taken care of.

Exploration: Guided walk in Jeanmarie farm in the Municipality of Aguada

3) The Birth of Enormous Cassava

We were impressed when a farmer pulled a cassava shrub from earth and huge cassava crops were born. Witnessing such event let us value nature more.

Exploration: Guided tour in YUCAE Project’s farm located in Punta Yeguas, Municipality of Yabucoa

4) The Elder Tree

The Elder tree (“Sambucus”) (“Saúco” in Spanish) acted as a magnet―we sensed its high energy vibration.

Exploration: Guided walk in Siembra Tres Vidas farm, Municipality of Aibonito +

5) The Oyedaea Verbesinoides Plant’s Flowers

The vibrant yellow Oyedaea Verbesinoides (“Tara” in Spanish) daisy-like flowers seemed to be smiling at us. Their honey-like smell relaxed us.

Exploration: Guided walk in Siembra Tres Vidas farm, Municipality of Aibonito +

We suggest taking advantage of earth’s magic and letting yourself feel the personal bond with farms’ crops and the natural scenery while engaging in agritourism activities. Though you may like the outdoor recreation in general, it is rewarding to learn and hold dear the particular experiences that enchanted you.

+ Currently, school groups may schedule guided tours to visit and learn about Siembra Tres Vidas farm. Volunteering opportunities are also available at this farm.
